After shooting a wedding for a couple Hayley finds that they will often come back to her for other momentous occasions in their lives, one of the most common being when they have children. 'I love photographing the babies of couples that I already know; the relationship is already there between us. The moment I walk through the door I get thrust a brand new baby and they're quite happy to leave me to do what I need to do because they trust me. I enjoy that experience.'

The idea of one area of a business driving another is nothing new, but now there are more tools at a photographer's disposal to encourage this to happen.

Engaging with clients on Facebook and similar can be a surefire way to keep you at the front of their minds, but also to build that essential relationship with them.

'Facebook constantly gives me an insight of who my clients are and where their moral compass is, so when I speak to them I can talk about things that have been going on in their lives. A lot of my clients stay in touch after the wedding too, they don't un-friend me and move on, so the next thing you know they're coming back and asking if I can photograph their baby'.

Engaging your Clients

Caring about your clients and what matters to them shouldn't be an 'add on' service, Hayley believes. Working in HR for 15 years, including specialising in employee engagement, means that Hayley is uniquely placed to deliver a Masterclass on engaging clients at the Societies' Convention 2014. 'I've always loved giving, I get a bit enthusiastic and excited about it' Hayley says. 'I often talk to other photographers about what I do and how I got my business going, that makes me excited. And seeing them get excited about their own business fuels that too.'

Truly listening to your client and aligning yourself with their values means that they will go away from a session or wedding just bursting to tell others about what you do and how fabulous you are. They will be looking for every opportunity to talk about you and your business as well as rebook you in the future. Your clients will become your greatest marketing tool.

An engaged client also invests back into your business, supporting and caring about the things that matter to you, as proven by Hayley

in her own charity work and Hero's Weddings.

This Masterclass will discuss an approach that should be fundamental to every single social photographer's business and is a great way to get advice on engaging clients from a people -management expert.
