"To have the opportunity to travel to Europe last year, to speak at the Convention and to actually work with European photographers was incredible," she says. "The experience was a lot of fun and it really tied me into a new group of people who, while they might have had similar passions to me, all had different ideas that they were bringing to the table. I'm really excited about the whole thing, because the first time of course I was new and didn't know what to expect. Now that I have been there I have a better idea: I'm looking forward to not only speaking but getting some education for myself as well."
This time around Sandy has three training sessions that she'll be delivering. "The first one I'm doing is a 90-minute business school class on the Tuesday, which will cover the foundations of running a business and some of the elements that I think have helped my business - particularly marketing structure.
"The next day should be really exciting because I'll be doing a live location shoot, which I'm thrilled about. We will be going to the London Science Museum with two child models and I'll really be able to showcase the best of what I do.
"I'm going to finish up on the Thursday with a killer marketing session for epic success. We will really get into some strong marketing structures that will help your business grow, and the majority of them will be tried and true foundations that have been successful for me for the last 24 years. I'll also be looking at some of the more modern developments such as social media, and I'll be showing why I think these are going to have a long-term effect on the industry."
This being her second time at the Convention, Sandy is anticipating that she'll benefit even more from the experience than she did first time around.
"Last year was my first year and it was overwhelming and exciting and ultimately a lot to take in," she says. "This time around I'm looking forward to the opportunity to personally get to know people and to have more chances to network and communicate. I would like to build a stronger relationship with members and my students and to really get a feel for what they're struggling with. Obviously, I want to apply that knowledge to my other educational resources and make sure that we are continuing to improve and are doing what works best for our students. Also, I'm pretty pumped up to just have a little bit of down time. In addition to teaching, I hope to attend some of the other classes and get a feel for what people really like.
"In the past 15 to 20 years I have attended just about every convention in the United States, so I have seen virtually everything. I have listened to every up-and-coming speaker and every main feature speaker and so it's really exciting to imagine that there's a whole other group of people out there that I have never had the chance to learn from. I'm sure there is going to be a lot of new information and a lot of new spins on old information, and I can't wait to see what's in store."
