At the Societies' Convention 2014 Tamara will be giving a Masterclass on finding your style as a photographer and stopping yourself blending into the crowd. There is so much inspiration available to photographers today with the internet always at our fingertips that it can sometimes be too easy to feel the influence of popular trends. We all seem to want the latest light modifier and whichever lens is currently in fashion but Tamara believes it's crucial to follow your own path. 'I think if you can get a really authentic vision and an understanding of what you're naturally drawn to, then you'll photograph from a much better place. When your photographs reflect your true vision, you'll be attracting clients that want the work that you truly enjoy shooting.'
Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask Tamara where she gets her own inspiration from. 'Galleries, Pinterest and magazines mostly.
I can't walk past a newsagent without having a look at the fashion magazines such as Vogue or Marie Claire. I also love the work of Tim Walker; he's such an inspiration for me too. What's brilliant about him is that he stuck to film. I'm not saying you have to stick to film because I certainly don't, but he decided that film is for him and he's created a whole niche around what he does.'
There are 42 days to get ready for The Society of Photographers Convention and Trade Show at The Novotel London West, Hammersmith ...
which starts on Wednesday 15th January 2025
