Thinking about composition

It might be Catherine's first time speaking at the Convention, but a background in visual merchandising means that she truly knows her rule of thirds from her rule of odds. Good composition is something that you simply cannot ignore if you want to take your images to the next level. Some people might have been born with a sense of how to compose images but for the rest of us it's just something that needs to be learnt.

'Composition is the arrangement of visual elements in art. Knowing how to compose well can really improve the visual interest in a photograph' Catherine tells me. 'It's fundamental to good photography to understand composition'. Her Masterclass at the Convention will aim to cover the basics of compositional theory and leave delegates with an idea of both how to improve their own work and also how to look at the work of other photographers and artists.

Of course it's no surprise that with her own personal development plans Catherine is a big advocate of continuing your photographic education. 'Photography is such a vocational career, it doesn't matter if you've been taking photos for 10 or 30 years you should never stop learning and it often helps to revisit the basics. I hope that I can teach a class that people can really learn from and go on to use extensively in their own work.'

The Societies Convention 2014 is the perfect place to refresh your knowledge and pick up some new tips. It's a great way to give your images the kick-start they need in order to drive your business forward.
