Ian Cook gets to work on the fine detail of captioning for the newspaper sports pages.
From there it was a quick dash to the Business School (which was full to the back) and then a dash back to qualification panels, which occupied most of Wednesday (for me) and a lot of Thursday (for others).
Qualifications and 16x20 judging took up all of Wednesday and Thursday, I spent Friday around the Trade Show and backing up the stock files we had shot but then still managed to take in all or part of 20 seminars. As I said earlier, my interest is purely editorial, looking for gaps in Imagemaker's coverage and seeing who the shakers and movers are. Curiosity also plays a part – I am endlessly interested in what makes our wonderful presenters and contributors tick.

The seminar formats vary significantly from the 'show and tell' of a speaker's style of image to detailed disclosure of technique such as that delivered by Ian Cook and Terry Donnelly. They refined their combined talk in the bar the day before (steady!). Both now shoot for CameraSport and when I dropped by they were explaining the fine detail of captioning and Code Replacement techniques using PhotMechanic, along with remote camera control. They then moved on to image ingestion and transfer on live systems – this is the beauty of the Convention, you cannot lay your hands on this level of advice and expertise anywhere else!
