Draper Stanley Corners

When Charlotte suggested the topic for this feature yours truly was not on the schedule. It did, however, get me thinking and so here are my thoughts. A particular lens or tripod does not quite cut it for me, the concept requires something a little out of the ordinary. We did give people a free hand and decided to run with what ever turned up, but we also promised that they could have whatever was needed to actually use the gadget - it is an imaginary desert island after all!

Mine is a simple corner clamp made by Draper Stanley (although probably no longer!) and its use requires some G-clamps, picture framing, prints, mount board, window mounts, a full complement of macro photography gear and finally a wall to hang the finished product on - not a bad inflator for a 50-pence piece of plastic, but those were the rules!

The corners of the clamp are used on their own to act as guides when dropping a window matt accurately onto a mounted picture when you only get one attempt to line things up (ie when using double sided tack tape or contact adhesive. The are clamped onto a board in the correct spot during a dry run and then used for real just once as the composite mount and window matt are secured to each other.

Next the clamps are used to make a frame and hold it together while the glue sets. In truth they are rubbish at this task, no selfrespecting framer would go near them. They might be handy for mending a saggy gate but not a lot else (see the Amazon reviews in the call out).
