Ink Types
Depending on which of the three PIXMA Pro printers you choose, you'll either be using dye inks or pigment inks. There are pros and cons to each ink type and understanding them will be key in helping you make a decision between each of the three Canon models.
Dye based ink are the most common type in inkjet printers. Chances are,
if you have an A4 colour printer at home it will make use of dye based inks. Historically, the biggest benefit of dye-based inks is that they show a wider colour gamut allowing you to print more colours and create more vibrant images. With dye based inks, the ink sits on top of the paper media and is especially suitable for creating glossy, colour prints.
Pigment inks are the newer kids on the block. Traditionally, they were unable to print as wide a colour gamut but instead of sitting on the surface of the paper, they actually bind with the substrate creating a longer lasting print. This characteristic also makes them more suitable for matte and semi-matte printing.
In recent years improvements in pigment based inks have largely negated or removed the colour gamut argument for dye based inks, leaving the choice between glossy or matte printing as the main decider when looking at the two options.
Easy-PhotoPrint Pro simplifies printing from Adobe and Canon applications
Fits your workflow
The key for any photo printer is that it fits in with a photographer's workflow, and that doesn't mean just a print driver is needed. The PIXMA Pro series of printers come with a plug-in that integrates with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Canon's Digital Photo Professional software.
Easy-PhotoPrint Pro simplifies printing without sacrificing quality. One of the keys to productivity is to ensure that what is printed is what you expect. To make this possible, the Easy-PhotoPrint Pro plugin brings all the sizing, paper, quality and colour management settings into one place. Use it and you won't have to worry about doubling up on colour management settings, giving you incorrectly toned prints.
