While the popularity of today's coffee table magazine-type album doesn't appear to be lessening, now it has been joined by the 'lay flat' style of digital albums and books. GFSmith's Expressions digital album is one of its most popular products.

Sizes start from 8x8 going up to 16x16, with A3, A4, 14x10 and 12x12 all slotted in between. The albums can be designed by photographers themselves using GF Smith's free, downloadable multi-platform Print Presentation Software 'PPS'.

"It's very easy for the customer to design their album and FTP it to us," says Manager Gail Mellors. "We'll then print it and bind it and deliver it back to you. The service offers fantastic quality, excellent value, and there's a massive choice of covers in the Expressions digital albums range."

Turnaround time for an Expressions album is 10 days. Page counts can start as low as five pages and 10 sides, or alternatively 10 pages and 20 sides, with 50 pages and 100 sides being the maximum.

Of course, as the company's URL also suggests, GFSmith still also specialise in photo mounts.

"We have sales reps on the road who will drop into your home or studio with sample"

"We make all the folders and mounts here too," Gail confirms. "There's massive, massive choice. It's all bespoke for the customer, and the beauty is that if a photographer has a school prom or event to shoot they can have a mount matching the school colours. We also do block printing in gold, silver or white - whatever the customer wants on there. The only limit is your imagination." Standard ranges are also available.

Presentation with a competitive edge

Press Presentation Books is another big product line for GFSmith, and these are also printed lay flat on good quality paper. "In fact the Press Books are perfectly lay flat, which is very unique," enthuses Gail. "We're very up on Green issues so we offer a recycled paper option too."

While the Expressions digital album is printed on a silver halide paper, the Press Books are on an indigo inkjet paper. "The Expressions is printed on a solid thicker leaf," explains Gail. "The Press Book is more like a book, but is also printed on very good quality paper.
