Occasionally for Paper Chase we take a comprehensive look at complete paper ranges from single suppliers. The first we did was back in 2005 when we looked at the entire PermaJet paperrange and although we have routinely looked at their products as new components have been launched, it was timely to look at the entire range once again. This is no small undertaking but such reviews have, in the past, proved to be popular with both the suppliers and readers.
For a test such as this the number of variables is vast and simplifications have to be made. The variables are the printer, the ink, the settingsand the profiles. This particular series has been carried out using the new Epson Stylus Pro 3880, using the K3 UltraChrome Vivid Magentaink set and matt or photo black ink as appropriate. Each media was profiled at PermaJet using the X-Rite ISIS spectrophotometer, linked withX-Rite Profiler Pro 5.0. A resolution mix of 2880 or 1440 dpi was used, as appropriate, and the media settings were generally Premium GlossyPhoto Paper or Enhanced Matt Paper.
