A digital image format in which each pixel can represent only two colours, typically black or white. This is the simplest form of digital imaging, using the least amount of data per pixel, and is often used for line art, simple graphics, icons, and high-contrast text images. Because of its limited colour range, 1-bit images are not suitable for photographs or images requiring gradation.
