Available light

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A term used to describe photography that relies solely on the existing natural or artificial light in a scene, without any additional lighting from flashes, lamps, or reflectors. This includes sunlight, indoor room lighting, streetlights, or any other ambient illumination. Using available light can create natural-looking images and mood, but it requires careful exposure management and sometimes higher ISO settings or slower shutter speeds to capture the scene effectively.
