Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) – A cathode ray tube is an evacuated glass bulb containing electrodes and pairs of plates that control the path of an electron beam. CRTs were widely used in televisions, computer monitors, and early video displays to produce images by directing electrons onto a phosphorescent screen. In photography and imaging, CRTs were historically important for video capture, scanning, and early digital imaging systems, providing a foundation for modern display and image technologies.
