CCD pixels

SWPP Photographic Glossary

CCD pixels refer to the total number of light-sensitive pixels on a CCD sensor array. While this number gives an idea of the sensor's potential detail, it does not always reflect the camera's true resolution, as some pixels are reserved for colour interpolation and image processing. The actual resolution is better indicated by the output dimensions (e.g., 1600x1200 pixels), which represent the image size the camera produces. CCD pixels are critical in digital imaging, determining the level of detail, colour accuracy, and overall image quality.
