Chemical vapor

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Chemical vapor is a photographic technique in which negatives are exposed in a closed container to small amounts of reactive gases, such as mercury or sulfur dioxide, before normal development. This process can create unique visual effects on the image, but results are often unpredictable and inconsistent. Due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals, this method is considered experimental and requires careful handling in a controlled darkroom environment.
