Chromogenic materials

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Chromogenic materials are colour photographic films or papers that form dyes during the development process. In these materials, the developer's oxidation products react with colour couplers embedded in the emulsion, producing accurate and stable colour images. Chromogenic materials are the basis for modern colour negative, slide, and print photography, allowing photographers to capture vivid colours and fine tonal detail.
