The CIE is an international organisation that developed a universal system for describing colours. Their system, known as the CIE Lab colour space, represents all visible colours in a three-dimensional model with a luminance channel (L) and two colour channels, A and B, which represent green–red and blue–yellow values. This system allows precise specification, measurement, and reproduction of colour across photography, printing, and digital imaging, ensuring consistency and accuracy in colour management.
