Dimm (Dual In-line Memory Module)

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A DIMM, or Dual In-line Memory Module, is a type of memory chip that can be installed into a computer to expand its RAM (Random Access Memory). Unlike older single in-line memory modules, DIMMs have separate electrical contacts on each side of the module, allowing for faster data transfer and improved performance.

For photographers and digital artists, increasing RAM with DIMMs can significantly enhance the performance of image-editing software, speeding up tasks such as rendering, applying filters, or working with large high-resolution files. More RAM also allows computers to handle multitasking more efficiently, making it a vital upgrade for professional digital workflows.
