Dye

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Dye image monochrome films are black-and-white negative films specifically formulated to be processed using colour development techniques, such as C-41. Unlike standard black-and-white films, these films produce a monochrome image while being compatible with modern colour processing chemistry.

This allows photographers to take advantage of widespread colour lab processing while still achieving classic black-and-white images. Dye image monochrome films are particularly useful for convenience, consistency, and creating high-quality black-and-white photographs without requiring specialized darkroom chemicals.
