Endoscope

SWPP Photographic Glossary

An endoscope is a specialized optical device designed to allow photographers and researchers to view and capture images of small or hard-to-reach subjects. It consists of a flexible or rigid tube with lenses and often includes a light source, enabling visual access to confined spaces such as inside machinery, scientific specimens, or medical environments. In photography, endoscopes are used for macro imaging, scientific documentation, and technical inspections where conventional cameras cannot reach.

Modern endoscopes may be equipped with miniature digital cameras, enabling high-resolution photography and video recording in otherwise inaccessible areas. This makes them invaluable for applications ranging from biology and engineering to medical imaging and industrial inspections. By using an endoscope, photographers can explore hidden details, document intricate subjects, and expand creative and technical possibilities beyond the limits of standard lenses.
