Enprint

SWPP Photographic Glossary

An enprint is a small, commercially produced photographic print, typically created using automatic printing machines. Enprints are made from film negatives or slides and are usually produced in a fixed aspect ratio, with common dimensions around 3 1/2 inches wide. They were especially popular in the era of film photography as convenient, quick, and affordable prints for family albums, wallets, and casual sharing.

Enprints are designed for ease of handling and mass production rather than large-scale display, making them ideal for documenting everyday moments and snapshots. While digital photography has largely replaced traditional enprints, understanding this term is important for those studying photographic history, film workflows, or collecting vintage prints, as it reflects a standard method of producing small-scale photographic records efficiently and consistently.
