A Faraday shutter is a type of high-speed camera shutter that uses a pair of crossed polarizers with a glass block placed between them inside a coil. When a voltage is applied to the coil, it changes the plane of polarization of the light passing through the glass, allowing light to pass through the second polarizer and expose the film or sensor. This mechanism enables extremely fast shutter speeds that are difficult to achieve with conventional mechanical shutters, making it useful for high-speed photography applications such as scientific studies, motion analysis, and specialized imaging.
