High-Resolution Image

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A high-resolution image is a digital photograph that contains a sufficient number of pixels per inch (PPI) to suit the medium it will be displayed on. For example, images viewed on a computer monitor may only require 72 PPI, while images intended for magazine printing typically need 300 PPI or more.

High-resolution images ensure sharpness, clarity, and detail, whether viewed digitally or in print. Understanding resolution requirements helps photographers and designers produce images that maintain quality across different display formats and printing processes.
