Internal Focusing (IF) is a lens system in which only the internal lens elements move during focusing, rather than extending or retracting the entire lens barrel. This design offers several advantages, including maintaining a constant lens length, faster autofocus, a smaller focusing ring, closer minimum focusing distances, and better correction of optical aberrations throughout the focus range.
IF lenses are particularly useful in telephoto and macro photography, where stability, compactness, and precise focusing are important.
