Infinity Mode

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Infinity mode is a camera setting that overrides automatic focusing and locks the lens focus at infinity. This ensures that landscapes, distant subjects, and other far-away scenes remain sharp, regardless of where the camera's autofocus might normally select.

Infinity mode is particularly useful when shooting through glass or obstacles, where autofocus systems can be easily confused, or in situations where the subject is extremely far away. Understanding and using infinity mode helps photographers achieve consistently sharp images of distant scenes, making it a valuable tool for landscape, architectural, and astrophotography.
