Interleaving

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Interleaving is a darkroom technique in which multiple sheets of photographic paper are agitated together in the same tray of chemicals. This method allows photographers to process several prints at once, saving time and ensuring consistent chemical coverage across all sheets.

Understanding interleaving is useful in both black-and-white and colour darkroom printing. By properly using this technique, photographers can maintain uniform development, improve workflow efficiency, and reduce the risk of uneven processing when handling multiple prints simultaneously.
