Microphotography

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Microphotography is the process of producing extremely small photographs, often intended for storage in microfilm or microfiche documents. These miniature images allow large amounts of visual information to be stored in a compact format, making them ideal for archives, libraries, and official records.

It is important not to confuse microphotography with photomicrography. While microphotography focuses on reducing the size of the photograph for storage, photomicrography involves capturing images through a microscope to reveal details not visible to the naked eye. Microphotography has historically played a key role in document preservation and research.
