Panoramic Camera

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A panoramic camera is a specialized camera designed to capture wide, elongated images by using more than one film frame or a rotating mechanism. For example, a 35mm panoramic camera may use one and a half frames to produce a 24x54mm image, while medium-format 120 film cameras can capture 6x17 cm images. These wide-format images are especially striking for landscapes, architecture, and scenic photography.

Some panoramic cameras are capable of recording a full 360° view, which can then be digitally joined to create immersive images. When viewed on a computer or interactive display, these images allow the viewer to look around the scene as if standing at its centre, providing a highly engaging visual experience.
