Parallel Cable

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A parallel cable is a type of connection used to link a computer to another device, typically a printer, via parallel ports. Unlike serial cables, which transmit data one bit at a time, parallel cables send multiple bits simultaneously, allowing faster data transfer for certain applications.

Parallel cables were once common in computer and peripheral setups, particularly for printers and scanners. While largely replaced by USB and network connections today, understanding parallel cables is useful for working with older hardware or legacy photographic equipment that relies on parallel communication.
