Parallel Port

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A parallel port, also known as an LPT port, is a connector on a computer that allows communication with peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, or other hardware. It transmits multiple bits of data simultaneously, making it faster than older serial connections for certain tasks.

While largely replaced by USB and network interfaces in modern systems, parallel ports were once standard for connecting photographic printers, scanners, and other imaging devices. Understanding parallel ports is helpful when working with legacy equipment or troubleshooting older computer-based photographic workflows.
