Photo Colour Transfer

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Photo colour transfer is a photographic technique used to create colour enlargements from a full-size sheet of film. The process involves soaking the exposed film in an activator solution, then placing it in face-to-face contact with the receiving paper. The film and paper "sandwich" is left under normal light for several minutes before being carefully peeled apart, resulting in a finished colour print.

This method allows photographers to produce vibrant, detailed images with unique colour characteristics and tonal depth. While less common in modern digital workflows, photo colour transfer remains an important historical and creative technique in analogue photography, valued for its distinctive artistic effects.
