Program Shift

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Program shift is a feature in program exposure mode that allows photographers to alter the aperture and shutter speed combination automatically selected by the camera, without leaving program mode. By shifting the settings, photographers can maintain the correct overall exposure while adjusting for depth of field or motion effects.

This function is particularly useful in dynamic shooting conditions, giving photographers creative control over focus and motion blur while still benefiting from the convenience of automatic exposure. Program shift combines automation with flexibility, making it a valuable tool for both amateur and professional photographers.
