Quick-release platform

A useful feature found on many tripods that allows the camera to be attached or removed with speed and easy. The platform is often small enough to be left attached to the camera's baseplate so when you want to use the tripod you just clip it into place. You can buy spare platforms to change the camera body or format that you have attached to your tripod.
