Re-sizing

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Re-sizing is the process of changing the physical dimensions of a digital image without altering its resolution. For example, if you resize a 10×8 inch image at 72 dpi to 4×6 inch, the dpi increases to maintain the same pixel count. Unlike resampling, no new pixels are added or removed during re-sizing, so the image’s detail and quality remain unchanged.

Re-sizing is an important tool for photographers and designers when preparing images for different print sizes, digital displays, or online platforms. By understanding the difference between re-sizing and resampling, users can control image output effectively while preserving clarity and sharpness.
