Reflex Camera

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A reflex camera is a camera system that uses a mirror to reflect incoming light from the lens onto a ground glass screen, allowing the photographer to view and focus the image exactly as it will appear in the photograph. This system enables precise composition and accurate focus, making it ideal for both amateur and professional photographers.

Reflex cameras are commonly associated with SLR (Single-Lens Reflex) and DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) designs, where the mirror flips out of the way when the photo is taken to expose the film or digital sensor. This technology has been widely used in both film and digital photography to ensure that what you see through the viewfinder matches the captured image.
