Rinse

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A rinse is a brief wash of photographic film, paper, or prints in clean water between different steps of a processing cycle. Its purpose is to reduce the carryover of chemicals from one solution to the next, helping maintain consistent development and preventing unwanted chemical reactions.

Rinsing is an essential practice in darkroom photography, ensuring image quality, proper tonality, and longevity of the processed materials. By carefully rinsing between development, bleaching, and fixing stages, photographers can achieve clean, defect-free negatives and prints.
