Rollfilm Back

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A rollfilm back is an adaptor that attaches to the rear of a large-format or medium-format camera, enabling the use of roll film instead of sheet or cut film. On large-format cameras, it allows photographers to take multiple exposures without changing individual sheets, while on many medium-format cameras it can also permit changing film mid-roll for greater flexibility.

Rollfilm backs are valued by photographers for their convenience, efficiency, and ability to extend shooting sessions. They provide a practical solution for capturing multiple images quickly while maintaining the high image quality and control associated with large- and medium-format photography.
