Silkscreen

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Silkscreen is a printing method in which ink is applied to paper, fabric, or other materials through a fine mesh stencil, often made of nylon and created using photographic techniques. Areas of the stencil block the ink, while open sections allow the design to pass through, producing precise and repeatable images.

Silkscreen printing is widely used in fine art, commercial printing, and textile design. Its versatility allows for vibrant, opaque colours and detailed graphics, making it a popular choice for posters, prints, and custom merchandise.
