Sync Lead

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A sync lead is a cable used to connect a flashgun to a camera, allowing the flash to fire precisely when the camera’s shutter is released. This ensures that the subject is properly illuminated at the exact moment of exposure, providing consistent and controlled lighting for a photograph.

Sync leads are especially useful in studio photography, off-camera flash setups, and situations where wireless triggers are not available or reliable. Using a sync lead gives photographers direct control over lighting timing and helps prevent issues like misfired flashes or uneven illumination.
