A transparency adaptor, sometimes called a transparency hood, is an accessory for flatbed scanners that allows them to scan transparent materials, such as slides or film. It typically contains an integral fluorescent light source to illuminate the transparency during scanning, enabling accurate reproduction of colors and details.
Some scanners come with the transparency adaptor built-in, while others offer it as an optional attachment. Adaptors vary in size, allowing scans up to A4 or smaller formats like 5×4 inches. Modern designs often include a sliding tray, preventing the transparency from contacting the glass and reducing the risk of scratches or dust, ensuring high-quality digital captures.
