Triple Extension

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Triple extension is a camera system where the lens-to-film distance can be extended up to three times the lens’s focal length. This allows photographers to focus at much closer distances than normally possible, making it especially useful for close-up and macro photography.

Photographers use triple extension to achieve high magnification and capture fine details of small subjects, such as insects, flowers, or intricate textures. Mastery of this system allows for precise control over focus and composition, resulting in sharp, professional-quality close-up images.
