Ultraviolet (UV) refers to the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths from approximately 400nm down to 1nm. Although invisible to the human eye, many photographic materials are sensitive to near-UV bands down to around 250nm, which can affect image capture, especially in landscape or high-altitude photography.
Photographers working with UV light may notice increased haze in distant views and a potential blue cast in colour images. Understanding ultraviolet sensitivity is essential for controlling exposure, using UV filters, and achieving accurate colour and clarity in both film and digital photography.
