Uprating

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Uprating is a photographic technique used to increase the effective sensitivity of a film. By manually overriding the ISO setting on the camera or using the exposure compensation dial, photographers can make the film more responsive to light, allowing for shooting in lower-light conditions.

When uprating film, it is important to adjust the development time accordingly, typically giving the film longer in the developer to achieve proper density and contrast. Understanding uprating enables photographers to capture well-exposed images in challenging lighting while maintaining image quality and tonal balance.
