He's won awards from the American Society of Media Photographers, the National Press Photographers' Association and the Boston Press Photographers' Association. Meanwhile his work is in the permanent collection of the Newseum in Washington, DC and he's had one-man shows at Boston City Hall and the Boston Public Library in addition to having his work displayed in numerous other shows. He's also just had some work on display at the Aperture Gallery in New York, which was sold by Christie's.
It's quite a list of achievements, and Rick aims to stay ahead of the game by never taking anything for granted and by making sure that he always gives his all on every assignment he receives. "My style and approach to photography is flexible and practical," he says. "As a freelance magazine photographer I receive an infinite variety of photo assignments and stock requests. Some assignments can take days of planning - I've made night shots that have taken 12 hours to create - while others are more 'f/8 and be there.' I have to be prepared for everything. I'm on a never-ending quest to learn more and to discover new ways to take photos. In this day and age, when everyone has a camera or iPhone, I know that what I do is offer a different angle, perspective and the ability to create images that are unique.
